Itinerary
Day 1 - The Liquid Arteries & Island Bivouac
Maun to the Poling Station
Your expedition departs from Maun at 08:00 AM, heading north into the distal reaches of the Okavango system. Here, the dry Kalahari scrub gives way to the lush, verdant fringes of the world’s largest inland delta. Upon arrival at the water’s edge, you meet your professional poler, a local
expert whose lineage has navigated these channels for generations.Deep Delta Navigation & Bush Walk
Board your Mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) for a silent, rhythmic glide through a labyrinth of papyrus-lined channels. Moving without the vibration of an engine allows you to witness the Delta’s intricate micro-ecosystem, from the shimmering dragonflies to the Long-toed Lapwing. After
reaching a remote island, we disembark for a guided bush walk. This is a masterclass in tracking; you will scour the plains for the prints of the Red Lechwe or the shy, swamp-dwelling Sitatunga. We establish our wilderness camp under a canopy of ancient water berries, dining by the fire as the nocturnal symphony of the swamp begins to rise.Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2 - The Inner Delta: A Narrative of Water and Wild
Sunrise Poling & Wilderness Exploration
We rise at first light to the liquid alarm clock of the Delta; the calls of the African Fish Eagle and the
splash of surfacing hippos. A morning mokoro excursion takes you deeper into the lily-covered lagoons, where the water is so clear you can see the white sands of the Kalahari below. This is prime time for spotting the Malachite Kingfisher and the Painted Reed Frog.Afternoon Island Tracking
Following a secluded bush lunch, we explore a different island system on foot. On an island walk, the perspective shifts; your guide will interpret the small five and the medicinal properties of the desert-palm and wild sage. We track larger game that migrate between the islands, such as zebras and wildebeests, observing how the Delta's fluctuating water levels dictate their movements. Your final evening at the island bivouac is a time for reflection, surrounded by the vast, unpolluted starlight of the Botswana sky.Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3 - (The Dawn Chorus & The Return to Maun
Early Morning Mokoro & Final Search
Our final morning is dedicated to the Dawn Chorus. We head out in the mokoro as the mist begins to lift from the water, providing a high-definition window into the Delta’s birdlife. We navigate the quieter backwaters, seeking out the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl or perhaps a family of otters playing in the reeds. It is a peaceful, meditative finale to your wilderness immersion, allowing for one last deep connection with the rhythm of the water.Return to the Frontier
Following a hearty bush breakfast, we begin our return poling journey back to the station. From there, a 4×4 vehicle transfer takes you back to Maun, arriving in the early afternoon. You depart with the scent of wild sage on your skin and a profound understanding of the Okavango’s liquid soul, a technical and spiritual passage through Africa’s most iconic oasis.Meals: Breakfast
